Kiis and break up: the radio station giving away a divorce

Are you sick of all those lovey dovey Valentine’s Day messages from brands that you were bombarded with over the weekend?

Well Melbourne radio station Kiis 101.1 has the remedy, by giving away a divorce. What could possibly go wrong?

According to an on-air segment this morning it was inspired by host Meshel Lawrie’s current predicament as she goes through a divorce, and according to a press release is: “About opening dialogue on how listeners deal with break-ups, separation and divorce – and helping those who have ended their relationship but are unsure how to navigate the next stages.”

While Tilley says in the second segment it his understanding it’s the “first time” a divorce was being given away, the idea isn’t, in fact, new. It’s been done a few times before, in the US at least, including by the aptly named 99.5 Kiss station in the US.

But let’s face it, it’s likely to attract some heat from religious groups and family campaigners.

Still, if nothing else, the stunt should get good awareness for the new Meshel and Matt show as Kiis looks to up its ratings in the Melbourne market.
