Kim Williams tops the Encore E List of the industry’s 200 most powerful
Mumbrella’s sister publication Encore today reveals the E List, a list of the 200 most powerful media and entertainment players.
The list counts down those that have the most influence over the creation of content from television series or film, printed content, online and advertising collateral.
Topping the list is News Limited CEO Kim Williams who has wasted no time making changes at company since moving across from Foxtel at the start of the year. In second place is Google’s Australia and New Zealand MD Nick Leeder most notable in the content production world for online video platform YouTube. In third place is the ABC’s Mark Scott who has lead the national broadcaster’s charge into the digital age.

What a strange list. How is thenpower derived exactly? Stokes is probably the most powerful politically because he owns his business and can do what he likes – pollies understand that, having been trained previously. Can Scott actually influence anything much? Not really. He could do something other than give all the programming to Denton, but that’s hardly power. Mitchell has a lot of client’s money to push around and usually he knows what he wants in return, everyone knows that.
On the other hand can Williams afford to push people around after the UK calamity? No.
Leeder doesn’t advertise. He makes no content. Power? Huh?
Conroy might have some power, but in his game you have to use it. So let’s see what his convergence review says.
Why no Lund? Why no Lachlan? Why no Thodey?
This list is a review mirror view. The world has passed them by.
Fairfax has not a zac to invest in anything. Their big muscle products are tragically reduced. Forget Hywood.
