Kinder launches e-book platform for kids

Ferrero Group’s chocolate brand Kinder has launched an innovative e-book platform to transform story time for families, called ‘LET’S STORY’.

Accessible through Applaydu – a safe, child-friendly app – LET’S STORY invites families to craft their own personalised stories or rediscover classic fairy tales, creating an interactive and engaging shared reading experience.

Research from Ipsos, commissioned by Kinder, found that 97% of parents consider reading vital for their child’s development, while 49% believe play strengthens family bonds.

With these insights in mind, Kinder developed LET’S STORY to provide shared learning opportunities, where children can craft their own stories in a safe and controlled digital environment.

“We understand the crucial role imagination and creativity play in fostering childhood development and learning,” said Kinder’s Andrea Almeida.

“That’s why, in partnership with leading experts from technology, education and gaming, we’re excited to introduce our new LET’S STORY! e-book platform. This launch represents a significant milestone in our commitment to promoting joyful growth through engaging and interactive experiences.”

To develop the platform, Kinder collaborated with experts in education, technology, and gaming – the University of Oxford, Microsoft, and Gameloft.

Insights from the University of Oxford’s Department of Education shaped the educational content, tailoring it to the cognitive and language development of children at different age levels.

Microsoft’s technology powers the platform, enabling families to create personalised stories in 15 languages, which are adaptable to a child’s age and produced with different tones of voice.

Meanwhile, Gameloft translated educational concepts into vibrant animations, interactive elements, and engaging storytelling mechanics to keep children entertained.

Dr. Sara Ratner at the Department of Education at the University of Oxford noted: “As AI technology rapidly evolves, it increasingly impacts every aspect of our lives.

“This project provided us with the opportunity to better understand how we can make the best use of such technologies aimed at enhancing children’s enjoyment of reading through shared engagement with their families.”
