Kingdom increases screen average
The crime drama Animal Kingdom was up 27 percent during its second weekend, reaching a box office result of $1,835,922 since its June 3 release. It also went from 48 to 56 screens.
“It makes us proud – and patriotic – that it’s one of ours!” said Madman Theatrical distribution manager James Hewison.
Hewison emphasised that a screen average increase during a film’s second week – from $12,586 last week to $15,161 over the long weekend – is remarkable for any release. The total for the weekend was $858,854, enough to reach #6 in the box office list.
In a press statement, director David Michôd said the last few weeks had been “overwhelming” and that he was “really happy” with the way the film has been received.
Michôd, producer Liz Watts and cast members Jacki Weaver and James Frecheville will now go to Los Angeles for the local film festival, where Animal Kingdom will screen on June 23 and 25, ahead of its US release on August 13.
It also increased its screen count didn’t it? Even more remarkable if so.
