My Kitchen Rules dominates on its return as I’m a Celebrity and The Block audiences dive

My Kitchen Rules The second episode of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here plummeted last night against stiff opposition, dropping from 1.2 metro viewers tuned in for the debut on Sunday to 755,000 last night.

As the networks gear up for the official start of the ratings year next week regular programming returned with Seven’s My Kitchen Rules dominating the night on its debut this year, with 1.596m viewers for its 7.3opm slot, slightly down on last year’s launch of 1.671m. It was the most watched show across all the demographics.

The show was simulcast on 7Mate with OzTam and Seven unable to provide a break down on channel-by-channel audiences.

However it also blew away Nine’s The Block: Triple Threat which could only manage a metro audience of 802,000. Last Wednesday evening the show grabbed a metro audience of 965,000 while on Thursday, when it was not aired in Perth, it was watched by 779,000.

Home and Away’s climatic final episode of 2014 resulted in a bumper audience for the soapie’s return, with 1.116m tuning in at 7pm to find which of the characters survived a major bus accident. The episode out-rated Nine’s A Current Affair which grabbed an audience of 842,000 and Ten’s second half of The Project which was watched by 657,000.

The return of MKR helped Seven win the night with an audience share of 23.9 per cent as Nine grabbed second place with a share of 18.8 per cent. Ten managed a share of 15.1 per cent while the ABC settled for a share of 14.3 per cent.

Over on the ABC, 7.30 was watched by 826,000 while Australian Story at 8pm lured a crowd of 780,000. Four Corners at 8.30pm was watched by 724,000 while Media Watch at 9.20pm had an audience of 715,000. Q&A at 9.30pm grabbed an audience of 627,000.

In news, Seven News or Today Tonight at 6.30pm won with an audience of 1.073m building on the 6pm audience of 1.063m. Nine News at 6pm was watched by 1.038m before climbing to 1.059m at 6:30pm.

Yesterday’s broadcast of the Super Bowl on Seven, which aired from 10am to 4pm, was watched by 280,000 metro viewers.
