Lenovo appoints Weber Shandwick to its social strategy
PR agency Weber Shandwick has been appointed to computer company Lenovo to develop and manage its Australian and New Zealand social media strategy. The company had previously managed its social media in-house.
The announcement:
Weber Shandwick has begun working alongside Lenovo Australia and New Zealand to develop and execute a social media strategy that will underpin the company’s marketing and communications efforts in 2013.
As the company looks to extend its business success in the Australian and New Zealand SMB, enterprise, government and education markets, the agency will initially focus on fostering a small-business community via social media working with Lenovo’s senior marketing team.
“After managing Lenovo’s social media properties in-house for two years, we identified the need for a strategic digital agency partnership that would contribute to our marketing mix and enhance our engagement with target markets,” said Danielle Uskovic, Environment and Social Media Manager for Lenovo Australia and New Zealand. “We were impressed by Weber Shandwick’s credentials as a digital agency, complemented by their traditional PR experience in the technology space, and their ability to champion the story telling capabilities we needed. Weber Shandwick’s strategic contribution to our team in terms of thinking and execution has already been valuable and we look forward to building our partnership with them over the coming months.”
Lenovo has gained market share across all geographies, products and customer segments, making it the world’s fastest growing and recently touted global number one PC manufacturer (according to research firm Gartner). Locally, small business customers have enthusiastically supported the launch of the latest ThinkPad range, while the company enjoys the number one position in the education market.
“Lenovo continues to grow in the SMB market and it is exciting to tailor a social media campaign for this audience,” said Jye Smith, vice president digital, Asia Pacific, Weber Shandwick. “Our own expertise across social media and our understanding and experience of the technology industry provides a strong foundation to assist Lenovo in all areas of its business. We look forward to developing an active and engaged small-business social media community with Lenovo.”
