Lisa Muxworthy named editor-in-chief of news.com.au

News.com.au has appointed a successor for Kate de Brito as editor-in-chief in Lisa Muxworthy.

Mumbrella revealed in October that de Brito would step down from the role after four years. She finishes up today, with Muxworthy taking over immediately.

Lisa Muxworthy steps up as editor-in-chief of news.com.au

Muxworthy joined news.com.au in 2012 as deputy editor, and has spent the most part of her career within News Corp Australia working at a number of local titles, including The Mosman Daily and The Southern Courier. She steps up as editor-in-chief from her previous position as editor.

News Corp Australasia’s executive chairman, Michael Miller, described de Brito and Muxworthy as a “formidable team” and said Muxworthy was the “strongest candidate to emerge from the vigorous process we conducted”.

“Lisa is now a uniquely qualified digital journalist and editor and I look forward to seeing her lead news.com.au to the next level of audience growth and engagement,” Miller said.

“News.com.au is still a new brand in media terms, but in a little over 20 years it’s developed an incredibly ambitious approach that’s seen it grow to now reach more than 11 million Australians every month.”

Muxworthy said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have the privilege of leading the powerhouse that is news.com.au. It leads the way in digital news in Australia because it has incredible people and I’m honoured to lead them to the next stage.”

November’s Neilsen digital content rating saw news.com.au grow its unique audience, month-on-month by 2.1%, reaching 11.055 million.

De Brito’s next move is yet to be revealed.
