Louise Evans appointed manager of Radio National

Louise EvansThe ABC has appointed the former managing editor of The Australian Louise Evans as its manager of Radio National.

In making the announcement Director ABC Radio, Kate Dundas said:

“Louise is an outstanding media professional who brings both senior editorial and leadership skills to the job, having most recently worked at The Australian as Managing Editor, and then Commercial Editor.

“At The Australian she was instrumental in successfully leading staff, particularly through change processes as the organisation grappled with industry shifts.”

Evans is an experienced journalist and editor who has worked at Fairfax and as a correspondent for AAP before becoming senior editor at The Australian newspaper. While at News Limited her roles included sports editor of The Australian, deputy chief of staff, features editor, then was managing editor for a number of years before becoming commercial editor until last year.

“Louise brings to the ABC expertise in editorial leadership and in creative and change management. She is a passionate listener to RN and extremely knowledgeable in the Australian media. In the last few months, Louise has also been tuning her radio ears professionally through recent work as a producer on RN Breakfast and on the Mornings program at 702 ABC Sydney,” said Dundas.

“This passion combined with her editorial experience puts Louise in a great position to lead the RN team in a period of growth and change in a fast-moving media environment. Louise’s support of our talented line up of producers & presenters will help drive RN’s purpose of nurturing the intellectual and cultural life of this country.”

The new manager of Radio National said she was excited about the opportunity. “I’m thrilled to have this opportunity. RN is a major force in Australian intellectual life and holds a unique place in the media industry,” said Evans.

“To play a part in engaging audiences with its talented program teams & outstanding content is a challenge to which I very much look forward.”
