Majority of online publishers ‘planning to charge for content’

A survey of online content providers suggests the majority of them plan to charge for content.  

The results of the comprehensive census of members the Association of Online Publishers in the UK – indicates that 70% are either already charging for content or plan to do so.

The number is a significant increase on a similar survey carried out two years before.

According to the new AOP study: “Members who have indicated that they ‘plan to charge’ for content have highlighted Special Reports (26%); Downloadable Apps (26%); Archives (16%); and Specific Mobile Content (16%) as the top areas.”

More than half of those who took part said they now publish content via Twitter.
