Maltesers send up of Texas Chainsaw Massacre wins top radio award at Sirens

An ad for Maltesers sending up cult horror movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been named the best radio ad of the year at the 2016 Siren Awards.

The spot,’Lighten up your movie with Maltesers’, effectively a light-hearted trialer for the film by Elle Bullen and James Orr of Clemenger BBDO Melbourne took home the Gold Siren at the Commercial Radio Australia event.

The duo also picked up the Silver Siren in the Single category for the ad and have won a trip to the Cannes Lions festival, which the ad will also be entered into.

Eardrum’s Ralph Van Dijk and Flagstaff Studios Paul Le Couteur took out the Silver Siren for craft for the ad.

BMF creative team Cam Blackley, Alex Derwin, David Fraser and Dantie Van Der Merwe won the Silver Siren for campaign (minimum of three ads in a series) for Aldi Australia’s ‘Liquor Translator’.

The ‘El Toro Macho’ ad in the same series won the Client Award which comes with a $5,000 cheque.

CRA CEO Joan Warner said: “Humour in radio ads can gain so much cut through on radio. All the winning ads combine excellent writing, clever craft, plus comic timing and are deserving winners of this year’s Siren Awards.”
