Mia Freedman’s Mamamia Women’s Network has poached Yahoo!7’s head of editorial Anne Markey after just eight months in the role.

Markey will head up a new women’s website aimed at women aged over 40-years-old called DebriefDaily.com.

“I’m thrilled to be launching Debrief Daily and working with the Mamamia Women’s Network who I consider to be Australia’s most dynamic digital publisher,” said Markey, in a statement.

Markey has over 25 years of experience working in print and digital having worked for News Corp, SBS, Fox Studios and most recently, as head of editorial at Yahoo!7.

She will be joined by a team that includes Sarah Macdonald and Bernadette Morley as Debrief Daily’s senior editors and Dina Kluska who will step into the role of senior features editor across both Debrief Daily and Mamamia.

Co-founder and publisher of the Mamamia Women’s Network, Mia Freedman said that the new website would fill a gap in the Australian media landscape, tapping into conversations of women in their 40s and beyond.

“The birth of this website came from the same kind of itch as I had when I started Mamamia.com.au,” said Freedman. “As a 43 year old woman who is looking with excitement and energy to this next phase of life, I was shocked to discover there is currently no media outlet on any platform that is talking to me and the other dynamic, wise women who are 40+.”

A Debrief Daily podcast will be launched alongside the website in March and it will be hosted by MacDonald a former ABC radio personality.

Yahoo!7 confirmed it was currently looking for a replacement for Markey. The announcement comes on the same day the Seven/Yahoo! confirmed the launch of its native in-feed advertising platform.
