Mark Davis to present Dateline this Sunday

Walkley award-winner Mark Davis will be presenting Dateline for SBS this Sunday while colleague Yalda Hakim is on assignment.

The announcement:

March 16, 2011 –

Mark Davis will step into the Dateline presenter’s chair this Sunday 20 March taking the reins from co-presenter Yalda Hakim who takes her turn working in the field on assignment.

Mark Davis is considered one of Australia’s most respected journalists and a pioneer of Video Journalism, the core of Dateline’s unique approach to storytelling. His impressive body of work has won five Walkley awards, including the prestigious Gold Walkley for Blood Money, a Dateline report on the funding of pro-Indonesian militias in East Timor. His stories continue to set the highest standards for Dateline.

Already in 2011 Davis has had an exclusive interview with WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange which featured in Dateline’s first episode for the year. During the interview, conducted in the midst of his extradition hearing in London in February, Assange claimed the Gillard Government is actively working against WikiLeaks supporters, secretly providing the United States with information about Australians working with the whistleblowing group, a claim Gillard continues to deny.

Davis, who is currently on the road preparing a report from East Timor, commented on stepping inside the studio: “I’m looking forward to working with the team and taking my turn to present Dateline while Yalda hits the road. We’ve already featured some of the biggest international news stories on Dateline this year and we’ve got some unique and compelling reports in the pipeline from our team of Video Journalists currently travelling the world.”

Mark Davis and Yalda Hakim continue to work as Video Journalists while presenting Dateline, with one hosting while the other is on assignment.
