Marketforce appoints Carat Perth’s MD Adam Marshall as CEO in ‘complete management overhaul’

The managing director of Carat in Perth, Adam Marshall, is set to become the chief executive officer of Marketforce and OMD WA, in a move the agency says will “reshape the advertising landscape in Perth”.

Marshall is the third person to occupy the Marketforce/ OMD WA CEO role over the past year, with agency stalwart John Driscoll announcing his departure in June before popping up as Western Australia CEO at Seven West Media. Driscoll’s replacement Paul Everingham then left in February

Marshall has worked with Omnicom Group previously, having been managing director of OMD WA between 2010 and 2013.

He then went across to WPP as head of trading for APAC at Mindshare in Singapore, before returning to Perth as managing director of Dentsu Aegis Network’s Carat.

He will commence the dual Marketforce/ OMD role in June, when acting CEO Jim Gall will step aside. Gall will maintain his position as chair of the new Marketforce/ OMD board.

A release from the company noted that Marshall’s appointment, combined with that of Paul Coghlan as chief creative officer two weeks ago “rounds out a complete management overhaul” of the business.

Gall said the announcement marks a new era for the agency and is demonstrative of its intentions for the Western Australian market.

“There is no doubt Marketforce has been a bastion for creativity in Western Australia for many years and there is much to be proud of, however today’s fast-moving, highly fragmented media and technology market requires a more seamless content, analytics, data and channel planning model to remain relevant.

Marketforce: Sending a signal to the WA market

“This is a new era for Marketforce/ OMD that bring with it the most powerful integrated agency offering in Perth, backed by the data and analytics capability of the Omnicom and Clemenger Group networks.

“This is a definite signal that we are investing locally in WA with the best people, technologies and intellectual property to drive better business outcomes for clients.”

Gall added that Marshall’s extensive experience in both creative and media environments was rare.

“He has the unique complement of skills, knowledge and energy to drive greater integration, innovation and collaboration,” Gall said.

Clemenger Group executive chairman Robert Morgan said the combination of Coghlan and Marshall was formidable.

“In Adam and Paul we have agency leaders who understand how to combine brilliant creativity with new technologies to deliver highly effective communications. They also know each other well and have significant respect for each other’s capabilities,” he said.

“I am very pleased that both have returned to the Clemenger Group and particularly Marketforce/ OMD, after gaining valuable experience both locally and abroad. We believe both will make a huge contribution to the Clemenger BBDO network.”

In response to the news, a Carat spokesperson told Mumbrella: “The Carat proposition in Perth is evolving at an exciting pace – we’re looking forward to the next chapter. We wish Adam the best.”
