Married at First Sight kicks off on Nine on 28 January

Australia’s television networks are gearing up for the return of their flagship summer reality programs, with Nine announcing Married at First Sight will return to screens on Monday 28 January, a few weeks before the official ratings season kicks off.

Last year’s premiere of MAFS had 912,000 metro viewers, according to the overnight figures, which was up from 2017’s 820,000 and 2016’s 805,000.

This year, the audience for the show climbed steadily throughout the series. By the time it concluded in March, the final episode became the most-watched show of the year so far, with 1.753m metro viewers tuning in.  2017’s finale had 1.389m metro viewers.

Nine said the “provocative and polarising” show would be even more dramatic in 2019 than it was this year.

“This season you’ll bear witness to more love than ever before, with the infamous dinner parties more passionate, the commitment ceremonies more intense, and the relationships more tumultuous,” a release from the network said.

“If that wasn’t enough, the experts have introduced some surprising new elements that will rock the experiment and challenge not only the couples, but the group as a whole.”

The official ratings period commences on Sunday, 10 February.
