Masterchef attracts its largest audience since this year’s launch
Masterchef has won Tuesday night television as 1.045m metro viewers tuned in, its second-largest metro audience for the season.
The reality cooking show launched with a metro audience of 1.06m.
Chef Charlie Carrington was defeated by contestant Eloise Praino in the immunity challenge, with the episode the most watched non-news program for the evening.
The show was also the most watched program across key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.
Nationally – including both metro and regional affiliate stations – Masterchef grabbed 1.405m.
Also competing in the 7.30 timeslot was Seven’s House Rules which managed 812,000 metro viewers and 1.381m nationally, beating Nine’s 383,000 for The Last Resort which failed to make the top 20.
Masterchef’s success helped Ten edge closer to the top spot in overall audience share reporting an 18.4% share finishing just behind Seven’s 19.1% share.
Meanwhile Nine averaged a 15.4% share ahead of ABC’s 12.9% and SBS’ 4.8%.
The 6pm news battle saw Seven News win the night with 1.091m metro viewers ahead of Nine News’ 1.072m. At 6.30pm Nine News beat Seven’s Today Tonight/Seven News pulling a metro audience of 1.075m compared to 1.011m.
Nationally at 6pm Seven News grabbed 1.802m topping Nine News 1.078m, while at 6.30pm Seven News/Today Tonight managed 1.562m while Nine News attracted 1.080m.
