Matt Frilingos to edit Famous as Amy Sinclair departs
Former Daily Telegraph showbiz writer Matt Frilingos has been named as the new editor of Pacific Magazines’ celebrity title Famous with Amy Sinclair departing after a year in the role.
Frilingos has been with Famous since it launched in 2006. Before that he worked on The Daily Telegraph in Sydney including a stint on Sydney Confidential.
According to PacMags, the reason for Sinclair’s departure is a move interstate. Sinclair is a former editor of New Idea and Woman’s Day.
In the most recent set of circulation audit numbers, Famous was the best performing of the weekly titles, with a circulation of 86,056 – a relatively small decline of 2.9 per cent on a year previously.
Gereurd Roberts, publisher of Famous said in today’s announcement: “Matt’s creativity, insight and drive will bring new opportunities for the Famous brand. We are thrilled for Matt to step-up to the role of editor as Famous continues to redefine the weekly magazine market.”
Frilingos said: “I look forward to what will be a hugely exciting phase for the magazine, and the great opportunities this role presents.”
The appointment is effective immediately.
How does a circulation of only 86,000 make Famous the best performing of the weekly titles? Can you not do your arithmetic and see that it’s way short of other such as Who, New Idea and Woman’s Day?

Yes, I saw those and was perplexed at the use of ‘best performing’. All that means is it didn’t drop that much. But it’s still way, way down in sales compared to others, which doesn’t make it the best performing.

So the least worst performing is now the best performing. Who wrote that shit, Tony Abbott?

Amy will be sadly missed on that magazine – be interesting to see what matt has up his sleeve… but it better rock the market!
