McCann Melbourne launches ‘home grown thirst’ VB-bashing tactical ad for Broo beer
McCann Melbourne has launched a tactical radio ad for Broo beer that attacks the loss of Australia’s most popular beer brand VB to the hands of a British brewing company.
The ad breaks nationally on Triple M network today.
It launches three weeks after McCann Melbourne launched a tactical press ad featuring Muammar Gaddafi and the line ‘Life insurance?’ for client Lifebroker.
In a play on VB’s former “hard earned thirst” line, Broo uses “home grown thirst”.

Problem is Broo sounds like it’s from New Zealand

It’s a funny ad – but does obviously spend more time saying “VB is own by the British” than “buy our beer”. It’s an anti VB ad, not a Broo ad.

Pity Broo tastes like urine…

This is extraordinarily brave. I would have thought that CUB have the legal rights to this. You guys must have pretty good lawyers. And now it is in the public domain, there is no backing out. Balls of steel. Good luck, and hang on.

It does what it needs to do. It’s memorable for its irony, and it encourages listeners to think of Broo as a real Australian beer. I think it will be very effective.
