Once upon a time big corporations made the mistake of thinking that consumers liked them and they could tell them what to do. Obviously, it’s different these days.
Remember that hilarious time McDonald’s tried to get the public to wear McDonald’s-themed Olympics activewear? Because it was for the corporation’s charity?
You don’t?
Maybe because it’s now. Dr Mumbo kids you not – McDonald’s has just launched a store on eBay selling burger-themed activewear.
Somewhat optimistically, McDonald’s is urging customers to “dress like a legend to cheer on the green & gold this Olympic games in our limited edition range of legendswear.”

For those wondering about the design, close inspection reveals that yes, it does feature artistic representations of burgers and pancake stacks.
For only 70 bucks, the hoodie is up for grabs, while the tracky dacks are a bargain $50.
Dr Mumbo notes with some irony that the items are not available in extra large. However, they do happily appear to have elasticized waists.
Disappointingly, the public don’t seem to be entirely behind the concept of a fast food store launching an activewear range, even if it has been created by We Are Handsome. The patient McDonald’s community manager is being kept busy reassuring punters that it isn’t a joke, ,while one unkind commenter on the Maccas Facebook page suggests: “It looks like Carmen Miranda threw up on a cheap black track suit.”

I just bought the hoodie. No shame. They’ll all be sold by the end of the day. I rationalized that the proceeds go to charity, and I know first hand that the RMHC does incredible work.
