McDonald’s uses Sam Kekovich to launch its first Aussie lamb burger
McDonald’s will feature Meat and Livestock Australia’s ambassador Sam Kekovich to mark the arrival of lamb on its menu for the first time.
The ad campaign from DDB Sydney will launch next week to coincide with the product’s launch on Wednesday.
It’s the first time the food chain has launched a lamb burger in Australia, with dishes the Serious Lamb Burger and the Serious Lamb Taster wrap.
McDonald’s marketer Madeleine Fitzpatrick said: “This is a big launch for McDonald’s Australia, and we’re bringing lamb to the menu in a way that only Macca’s can.”
Kekovich has been the face of MLA’s lamb campaign since 2005, with his “Address to the Nation” campaign now annual in the lead up to Australia Day, 26 January.
The burger topping will include tomato, beetroot, aioli, ketchup, onion and egg.
Cannot stand this man! I had no idea who he was and after asking quite a number of my friends I finally found out he was some sporting person many years ago. His ads are painful and actual make me not want to buy lamb. It’s sad to think that boganism such as this is lapped up by the masses here in Australia as relatable, but if this idea was presented with a red neck in America or a chav in Britian it would be seen as comedic satire….

What’s worse is that a food chain that is trying to break away from being a beef restaurant, just treats lamb like beef. Who eats lamb with beetroot and egg? What an insult to lamb lovers and what a terrible combination of ingredients. Don’t be surprised if sales are well below expectations. 18mths research wasted.

McDonalds introducing lamb burgers? OMG! Their food is unhealthy enough without bringing in fat-filled lamb.

I think it is genius, lose the beetroot from the burger and I’ll defo be in line for one, what is it with Australian’s and beetroot?

I have to agree about the egg. I do not think it will sell at $7.95 in current economic climate. Ready to be proved wrong though.

@Bem
This guy’s routine actually is a form of comedic satire… I attended an event which he spoke at the other day and the entire audience wound up crying with laughter, even the one’s who initially hated the right-wing blowhard shtick

A McD’s burger costing more than $5 is not worth it…might’s well get a Grilled or something for that price. Whatever happened to cheap n nasty? These days, the only reason I go is if they’ve got the $2 burger specials.

$7.95, are you kidding? I only go to Macchukkas for the cheapie $1 – $2 menu. For $7.95 one can do much better. What a rip off!
