Which media player took out the Melbourne Cup one-two?
The results are in and this year’s Melbourne Cup winner is German stayer Almandin, which held off Heartbreak City in a hoof-hammering finish to the two-mile race that stops the nation.
But which of Dr Mumbo’s tipsters can claim bragging rights? After everyone drew a blank last year after an unfancied outsider won, this year no less than four punters picked the winner.
But the only person to tip first and second – or the quinella- was IPG Mediabrands Melbourne chairman Mark Pejic.
Of course those in the know would have followed Pej’s tips, given he’s a massive turf fan, and part-owner of several nags himself through his association with the Token Croats, as Dr Mumbo has mentioned before.
Of the other four people to tip the winner NewsDNA managing director, Nicole Sheffield, and Mindshare CEO, Katie Rigg-Smith, managed to pick the third placed horse, Hartnell, as well.
The other person who’ll be clutching a betting slip with pride is Adshel CEO Rob Atkinson who backed Almandin for the win after admitting “most horses I go for have to tiptoe back into the stables as they finish so late!”.
