Dr Mumbo

Fairfax, first for 2015 Melbourne Cup form

Dr Mumbo was delighted to find Fairfax Media had managed to get this year’s Melbourne Cup sweepstakes kit correct, after an embarrassing series of bungles last year.

But while the print version may be correct it seems the Sydney Morning Herald is a year behind on its online form guide.

When Dr Mumbo clicked on the link on the SMH homepage headlined “Which Melbourne Cup Horse Should You Back?” it linked straight through to a quiz featuring last year’s field. Not the most useful information for eager punters.

Interestingly, it recommended a horse that is running this year, Almoonqith, but with the wrong number (this year it’s 9).

Worryingly, there were 46 other people ‘reading now’ who are set to be sorely disappointed when they go to back their favourites only to find they’re not running.

And when Dr Mumbo did find the 2016 guide (along with 29 other people) and answered the questions in the same way it gave a different answer altogether.

At least it links somewhere, unlike 9News.com.au’s ‘Your guide to the race that stops the nation’ which takes you nowhere when you click on the link from the homepage.

Although they do at least appear to have the right day this year…
