Melbourne International Comedy Festival launches ad about not being funny
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has launched a campaign for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which is to be held for a month at the end of March.
The ad, directed by Brian Aldrich, features a woman who confronts the reality that her husband isn’t funny.
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne ECD Ant Keogh said in a press release: “The prerequisite to write something genuinely funny is the best brief – and also very challenging, given the time constraints of a TV ad and a G-rating.”
MICF marketing and sponsorship director, Lee Casey, added: “Everyone fancies themselves as a bit of a comedian, but when audiences see the pros in action at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival it only reinforces just how much skill it takes!”

Mmm, as Ant Keogh says, very challenging.

Not.

Of course, knowing that the actor is actually a very skilled comedian makes it more interesting.

What was that?

Good concept but over-acted like nearly all television in this country. Minimalism in expression please. When will directors realise you don’t need four seconds of dawning wonder in someone’s eyes, or five seconds of horror, or the slow exhale of breath on the realisation of some emotion. Watching stuff like this is like drawing teeth. Slow and painful.
That audio guy who wants to change all the same voiceovers needs to set up an acting and directing school as well.

It was good, but they should have hired the balding guy from those Commonwealth Bank CANT ads.

Did you play it again, forward it to your mates and post it on your Facebook page?
I’m guessing not.
