Melbourne radio ratings: 3AW top, Gold best of the rest, while its a slow start for Nova’s new brekkie team

It was business as usual at the top end of Melbourne’s radio market in the first survey for the year, while Nova’s new breakfast team, Ben, Liam and Belle couldn’t manage to get the new show to bounce.

The trio replaced Nova’s long-time breakfast lineup of Chrissie, Sam, and Brownie, shifting Ben and Liam, alongside their producer, Belle Jackson across from Adelaide, picking up a 7.3% breakfast share, down 0.2 points in the slot.

The big winner of book one for the year was 3AW, with the network the biggest riser as well as its drive show with Tom Elliot also bouncing back big time with a 3.9 percentage point jump to a 14.6% share, regaining the top spot.

Its breakfast pairing of Russel and Ross held on to the lead at breakfast too, with a 22.7% share, down 0.1 point from book eight, 2022. As has become a familiar story, Christian O’Connell was the best of the rest, jumping 1.6 percentage points to an 11.5% share.

Elsewhere in breakfast, it was a strong showing for The Fox, with Fifi, Fev, and Nick starting the year well on a 9.9% share, up 1.5 points. The network finished number three in the market with a 9.8% share, beating out Smooth FM on 9.3% overall.

Despite a strong end to 2023, KIIS national drive duo, Will and Woody’s share was decimated, with 2.8 percentage points knocked off, dropping to a 7.6% share. The network saw an overall dip of 1.9 percentage points too, the biggest overall decline in the book.

A strong outing for The Fox

Gold’s Dave ‘Higgo’ Higgins ceded top spot at drive to Elliot, with a 0.9 point drop to an 11.1% share overall, with Carrie and Tommy now breathing down his neck at a 10.6% share.

ABC Melbourne’s continued fall since the heights of the pandemic continued into 2023, with the network now sitting at a 5.8% share overall, with its new addition alongside Sammy J at breakfast, Charlie Pickering failing to make an impact as the show fell 0.7 points to a 7.3% share.

Executives at Southern Cross Austereo’s South Melbourne headquarters, with Triple M also picking up overall share, rising to 6.1%.
