Melbourne radio ratings: Classic Rock finally on the up
DMG’s Classic Rock has finally begun to show progress in Melbourne with its weekday share showing the biggest increase of any station, up from 2.8% to 4%.
Classic Rock’s breakfast show also showed the biggest jump in the timeslot, up from 1.6% to 2.9%. Breakfast host Joe Bovalino left the slot midway through the ratings period to move to Mix. He was replaced by Mike Perso.
DMG boss Cathy O’Connor told Mumbrella: “It’s a move in the right direction. It’ll take three or four surveys before we can be certain, but it’s a tick of encouragement.”
3AW continues to dominate AM with a weekday share of 16.3% while on FM, Austereo’s Fox FM is the number one commercial station on 11.9%. However, Fox FM’s networked Fifi & Jules drivetime show saw a fall of 2.0 to 15.1% although it continues to win the timeslot.
Well done Classic Rock. Mind you 3XY went into receivership with higher ratings than that!
So Fifi and Jules inherited a 20.5 share in melbourne and are now at 15.1. Losing a quarter of your ratings in 3 survey’s is a disastrous result. What makes this even worse is that the number still includes hamish and Andy for 20% of the result.
How many listeners does mtr have with those figures? Surely you could reach more people yelling out a window.
Looks to me like less people are listening to radio. Love to see the ratings for mp3 players and music streams 🙂
Rumour has it Sam Thompson has fallen on her sword too… this after Nova loses but Classic Rock gains?
Yeah Bob, Fifi & Jules must be gutted that they are still double the ratings of their Drive competitors. Fox must be spewing that they are only rating a 15. Quite disastrous indeed, they should probably fire them.
Bob – it must suck working at DMG
@buzzy yeah they must be pumped at this public reaction to their show

Steve – I reckon it would be great working at DMG. Imagine launching a radio station six years ago and it now rating 4% (2.6% in Sydney).
Anywhere else that wold be considered failure.
At DMG they open the champagne.
Nothing like an employer with low expectations!
and who said the radio industry was bitchy? relax guys… swings and round-abouts… swings and round-abouts… always has been
Ah Doug – but at DMG it’s only round-abouts. 😉
