Melbourne radio ratings: Fox back on top in FM battle

Fox FM has reclaimed its top spot in the FM battle in the fourth radio ratings survey of the year. It was knocked off the top spot by Smooth FM in Survey Two, but has battled back to take the top spot again, rising 0.8 percentage points to a 9.8% share.

Smooth FM dropped 1.5 percentage points from 10.3% last survey to 8.8% in this survey.

Fox FM also nabbed the top breakfast spot, gaining 1.6 percentage points for a 10.5% audience share, after last survey saw Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Byron Cooke tie with Smooth’s Jennifer Hansen and Mike Perso on 8.9% audience share. Smooth dropped 2.2 percentage points this survey to land on 6.7% audience share. Kiis’s breakfast duo of Jase and PJ rose 1.3 percentage points to hold a 6.5% audience share, the highest breakfast figures for Kiis since 2015.

There was also success in the drive slot for Fox FM, where a 1.3 percentage point gain gave Fox FM’s Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, followed by Kate Langbroek and Dave Hughes, an 11.0% audience share, making them the most-listened to FM drive show. Fox FM only lost the title in Survey Three, where they slipped behind Gold 104.3’s Gavin Miller. Gold 104.3 dropped 1.5 percentage points in Survey Four for an overall audience share of 9.1% in the drive slot.

3AW continued to be the most-listened to breakfast program overall, holding a 19.5% audience share, a 0.4 percentage point gain from Survey Three. 3AW breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and John Burns have held the top spot for more than 100 consecutive rating periods. ABC Melbourne held the third position after Fox FM with an 8.8% overall audience share in breakfast, followed by Gold 104.3, with Christian O’Connell as breakfast host, which dropped 0.7 percentage points to 7.0% overall.

3AW also holds the top spot overall in drive, with Tom Elliott holding a 12.0% audience share. Fox FM and Gold 104.3 have second and third, while Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty leapt into fourth with 8.8%, a 0.2 percentage point rise from last survey, thanks largely to Gold 104.3’s drop.

In audience share overall, 3AW still holds the top spot with a 15.6% audience share, followed by Fox FM and Gold 104.3. A 0.1 percentage point gain by ABC Melbourne put it just behind Smooth with 8.3% audience share, making it the second most-listened to AM station.
