Melbourne radio ratings: Fox FM’s Hamish & Andy overtakes 3AW as most-popular drive program

Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM has overtaken 3AW as the most-popular drive program overall, with Hamish & Andy grabbing a 12.9% audience share.

The FM station’s drive show, which jumped 0.2 points in survey four from last survey’s 12.7%, helped Fox FM bump 3AW to second place.

3AW’s Tom Elliott fell 0.5 points from 12.8% to 12.3%.

The FM drive show battle also saw Kiis FM take a fall as Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek’s show dropped 1.3 points to a 7.5% share, coming in equal fourth with Gold 104.3.

Beating Kiis FM was Fox FM, Nova and Smooth FM.

Nova’s Kate Ritchie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold came in second to Fox FM with a 9.7% share.

Smooth FM’s Byron Webb managed to gain a small amount of traction with a 0.2 point improvement, finishing with a drive audience share of 8.1%.

Tying with Kiis FM was Gold104.3 thanks to a 0.4 point improvement.

Triple M was the least popular commercial drive show with a 6% share even though it jumped 0.6 points from 5.4%.

Overall, Australian Radio Network’s Kiis FM struggled in the fourth radio ratings survey across the board including total people, breakfast and drive.

The radio station dropped 0.6 ratings points in overall people to a 6.4% audience share, leaving it as the lowest scoring commercial radio station.

Meanwhile, Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM has held its position as the leading FM radio station in Melbourne, with a 9.9% overall audience share.

The station jumped 0.1 ratings point in survey four, improving from last survey’s overall audience share of 9.8%.

Smooth FM stayed stagnant with its second position, improving 0.1 ratings point to a 9.4% share, while Gold 104.3 managed an 8.9% share, improving 0.8 points from survey three.

Fourth place went to Nova which gained 0.3 points taking the station to a 7.9% overall audience share, beating Triple M’s 6.6% share.

For the AM stations, 3AW still dominated in overall audience with 14.4%, despite falling 1.1 points from last survey’s 15.5% share.

3RN and SEN both finished with a 3.3% share beating ABCFM’s 1.9% and ABC News’ 1% share.

In the FM breakfast battle Kiis FM’s Matt Tilley and Meshel Laurie lost traction, dropping 0.8 points from third place to sixth place.

Fox FM again took out the top spot with an 8.8% share for the Fifi, Dave, Fev and Byron show.

The team pulled an extra 0.2 points from survey three’s 8.6% share.

Coming in second and getting closer to Fox FM was Triple M which pulled an 8.1% share, up 0.1 points.

Overtaking Kiis FM and finishing in third was Gold104.3 which jumped 0.9 ratings points to 7.5%, only narrowly beating Smooth FM’s 7.4% share for its breakfast show with Jennifer Hanson and Mike Perso.

Despite improving 0.5 points, Nova’s Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan Brown managed a 7.3% share, coming in just below Smooth FM’s breakfast ratings share.

In AM, 3AW yet again proved its popularity finishing with a 19.8% share, although it dropped 1.3 points.

ABC Melbourne also still managed to beat the commercial and FM stations with its 11.3% share, ahead of 3RN’s 4.9% and SEN’s 2.6%.
