Melbourne radio ratings: Gold104.3 becomes most popular Melbourne FM radio station

Australian Radio Network’s Gold104.3 has become the most listened to Melbourne FM station, overtaking both Smooth FM and Fox FM for GfK’s seventh survey for the year.

Gold104.3 improved 1.8 points from last survey’s 9.3% to 11.1%, while Smooth FM fell from its top spot as it lost 0.4 points to an overall share of 10.1%.

Meanwhile Fox FM remained in third place, from equal third last survey, as the station dropped 0.6 points from 9.3% to an 8.7% overall share.

Nova Entertainment’s Nova 100, stayed stagnant with a share of 6.9% as it managed to beat Kiis FM’s 6.2% share.

The least popular Melbourne FM radio station for survey seven is Triple J which managed an audience share of 4.5% and was beaten by sixth place holder Triple M which fell 0.5 points to 5.6%.

For the commercial radio stations, 3AW was once again the most listened to station for both AM and FM stations despite declining by 0.7 points from survey six to a 15.5% share.

ABC Melbourne managed an overall audience share of 9.3% while SEN took home a 3.5% share ahead of 3RN’s 2.6%.

Not only did Gold104.3 manage to take out the top spot overall, the FM station is also the most listened to FM breakfast show with Jo Stanley and Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann gaining 0.7 points from survey six.

Gold104.3 managed a breakfast share of 8.4% beating last survey’s breakfast winner, Fox FM, who slid 0.9 points from 9% last survey to 8.1%.

Fox FM’s breakfast show made up of Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Byron Cooke saw Dave Thornton leave the breakfast show during survey seven’s ratings period.

Triple M’s ‘Hot breakfast team’ with Eddie McGuire, Luke Darcy and new recruit Wil Anderson, remained on its 7.1% share.

Smooth FM tied for third place with Triple M as Jennifer Hanson and Mike Perso fell 0.7 points to 7.1% in survey seven.

Nova’s Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang, Jonathan Brown moved from its fifth place to fourth place improving 0.2 points to a 7.0% share, beating Kiis’ 5.6% share.

For the AM stations, 3AW saw a huge share of 17.6% and was the most listened to breakfast show overall, even though it dropped 0.1 points from survey six.

ABC Melbourne jumped 1 whole point to 12.5% and was the second most listened to breakfast show overall.

Meanwhile 3RN managed a 3.9% ahead of SEN’s 3.5% and ABC News’ 2.3%.

The drive battle was the only segment Gold104.3 didn’t come out on top, as Fox FM held its first place crown even though it fell from a share of 10.7% to 10.5%.

Fox FM’s popular drive duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee are finishing with the station at the end of the year and will be replaced by Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek.

Gold104.3’s Gavin Miller jumped by 1.8 share points to second place with a share of 10.1%.

The radio station which excelled in survey seven, managed to overtake Smooth FM’s Byron Webb who dropped 1 whole ratings point to 9.8% and finished in third place from last survey’s winning title.

Fourth place saw Nova’s Kate Ritchie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold loose 0.2 points and score a 9.4% share.

Meanwhile Kiis FM’s Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek- who will be moved to rival network Fox FM next year to replace Hamish & Andy and is set to be replaced by Perth’s Will and Woody – jumped 0.9 points from its 7.2% share to 8.1%.

Triple M’s new program Mick Molloy and Jane Kennedy – who replaced Merick Watts – fell 0.3 points to a 6.4% share.

The AM stations again proved to be popular with 3AW scoring an 11.4% drive share ahead of ABC Melbourne’s 7.4%.

Comparatively SEN managed a 3.6% drive share ahead of 3RN’s 2.9% and ABC FM’s 2.4%.
