Melbourne radio ratings: Nova 100 jumps highest
It was another good round of radio ratings for Nova 100 in Melbourne, with the station registering the biggest jump in weekday listeners – up by 1.6 percentage points.
Chrissie Swan and ex-Neigbours star Jane Hall’s new breakfast show has made good early progress on ARN’s Mix101.1 – although they started half way through the survey. Ratings were up from 4.7% to 5.5% in the breakfast slot, according to figures from Nielsen.
Melbourne’s 91.5 was the biggest faller, down from 4.3% to 2.8% in the weekday survey. It’s biggest drop was in the drive time slot, falling by almost 3 percentage points.
FoxFM suffered by almost as much, down 1.4 percentage points with its biggest drop in the crucial drive time slot. But the station is still Melbourne’s most listened-to FM channel, with 9.7% share.
Market leader 3AW was down slightly, but still controls 12.8% of the Melbourne radio audience.
The survey period was January 15 to February 11.
I think the big national ratings story is Southern Cross Austereo’s losses in breakfast and drive and the collapse in its Today Network’s core 18-24 and 25-39 audience. With SCA still hurting from the advertisers’ boycott, surely this will put further pressure on Kyle Sandilands.

That is very interesting Brett.
Over 120 companies have now withdrawn their advertising from the Kyle & Jackie O show. Will be interesting to see how the $$$ are being effected. I also understand that Austereo are required to offer compensation to companies whose ads are being played despite their explicit wishes that they not be. This is happening more often than you’d think.

I think one of the biggest winners of survey 1 is SCA with Triple M performing extremely well. DMG have suffered losses YOY and their new shows have no traction in the market.
The audience loss in melbourne will not be affected by Kyle and JAckie O specifically when you are talking Breakfast. This was a typical Survey 1. BEfore making judgments lets see how surveys 2/3 pan out.

I see 774 is up. Can’t help thinking the jump has a lot to do with Bruce Guthrie filling in for the painful Jon Faine.

@paul I know you sometimes get blinded by the company that you work for but SCA have systemic losses across the 2day network with cume down by almost 450,000 nationally and major share declines in the 3 major stations 2day, fox and B105.
You might want to also look at the drive show performance across those stations… It’s not look too flash.

Amazing. MTR have yet to drop below 1%.

hey What the? and Tim will vouch for this…I don’t work at SCA…I just look at the numbers on the pdf’s tim has. By the way you should never add cumes

Paul. I didn’t add cumes. I took the cume of each of the 2day network stations last year and compared it with the cume of each of the 2day network stations now and it was 450,000 less. Cut that any way you like….

@inky: John Faine deosn’t start until 8:30 so can’t really take much from those figures. Faine is a contrarian, Guthrie didn’t ask the hard questions. Give a full time gig to Waleed Ali…
