Metro Screen opens 2015 funding round

Metro Screen is opening up its 2015 round of funding for a variety of film projects.

The release:

Over the past 4 years, Metro Screen has been funding creative storytelling through the Breaks program. In 2015 the Breaks funding program is back with a focus on getting stories from script to screen with cash support, production subsidies and expert development workshops. Eleven participants will be selected to take their projects into the Story Hothouse and develop their craft at the Directors Foundry before rolling the camera in full-scale production.

Deadline for applications is 27 January 2015

Metro Screen is looking for

• Narrative short film projects of up to 10 minutes duration (drama, documentary, animation and experimental projects will be considered).

• Narrative projects created for online or small screen delivery (webisode series, transmedia, interactive, online documentary and mobile or tablet content with a narrative focus will be considered).

• Two narrative short film projects of up to 10 minutes duration awarded to applicants from an Aboriginal or Torres Straits Islander background (drama, documentary, animation and experimental projects will be considered).

Watch 2013 Breaks filmmaker, Samuel Leighton-Dore, talk about his experiences making the short drama Showboy, which premiered at the Dendy Short Film Awards at the Sydney International Film Festival 2014.

Successful applicants receive:

• The Story Hothouse: this is an extended workshop for the writer and director, working with screenwriting professionals and other creative teams to refine and develop production ready stories

• The Director Foundry: this is an extended workshop for the director to explore performance techniques, working with actors, visual story-telling and other key film production processes

• A cash production budget of $3,500

• Production equipment and post production facilities from Metro Screen to the value of $2,500

• A joint cast and crew screening.

Following the The Story Hothouse and The Director Foundry programs participants will be guided with professional support from Metro Screen to realise their project over a four month production period, delivering their final work by 25th of October, 2013.

Eligibility: Story to Screen is for early career creatives. Applicants with feature film or substantial television credits in their elected role are not eligible. Applicants must be a permanent resident of NSW.
