Mi9 confirms Australia to get Xbox One alongside US in November
Mi9 CEO Mark Britt has confirmed Australia will be among the first markets in the world to sell the Microsoft Xbox One, when it is released it is in November.
The Xbox One is the replacement for Microsoft’s popular Xbox 360 console and will offer a variety of innovative technologies, such as voice control and facial recognition, plus attempt to provide advertisers a better platform for engaging customers
“The first mover advantage is enormous,” Britt told Mumbrella, confirming Australia would join major market such as the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, United Kingdom and France, getting the product when it first launches.
“Xbox One will be the only platform bringing together social experience like Skype, entertainment like TV, movies and music and also great gaming together in a single platform,” he said.
Britt said the technology would be a boon for advertisers eager to target a younger demographic.
“We see engagement with brand ads on Xbox as being high than on any other platform,” he said citing recent campaigns for movies like Wreck-it Ralph.
“It is a phenomenal advertising experience because it is completely unique, particularly for reaching younger generations with ad formats that are incredibly engaging,”
The Mi9 boss said he saw this as part of technology evolution for both consumers and advertisers
“It is the next generation of technology in every respect”, said Britt. “It is more open, it brings the best of the web to TV for the first time, it is the next generation of the gaming console — faster, bigger, better — more immersive.”
“The big step change is what Microsoft are calling a more natural user interface that is voice controlled, controlled without any controller in the hand and being able to be in control of my entire entertainment experience.”
Unfortunately for the spokesperson, it’s unlikely that the headline “big step change” of voice control will actually work in Australia as showcased, at launch: http://venturebeat.com/2013/08.....pJCCSLG.02

I also thought the date hadn’t been announced – though they may have unintentionally done so via a competition:

Voice control on the Xbox 360+Kinect took about 6-12 months
to land in Australia as they had to collect all the voice data so
it could recognise our accents. I’m hoping that this data would be
pretty extensive by now and there (a) won’t be too much of a delay
in voice control with the Xbox One+Kinect 2.0; or better yet (b)
won’t be any delay.

Yeah ’cause that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a next gen gaming console in Australia…NFL and a bombardment of targeted advertising. The Xbox One has become a glorified North American TV set top box that plays games on the side. Will be crushed in every market other than North America by the PS4.
