Nine expands chief information officer Mat Yelavich’s responsibilities to include Mi9
Just days after the departure of Mi9 chief information officer Kelly Ferguson, Nine Entertainment has announced Mat Yelavich will take over her responsibilities.
Yelavich, who has been CIO of Nine for the last 12 months, will move across Mi9’s Australia Place offices in order to take over the role.
“In his current role Mat has demonstrated a great blend of both technology and people leadership capabilities,” said Alex Parsons, Nine’s chief digital and marketing officer, “we strongly believe this change will have a positive impact to the business and our people.
“I congratulate Mat on this change and look forward to working with him in his broadened capacity driving our business forward.”
On Friday, Mumbrella revealed Ferguson’s departure which is one of a number of senior departures that have occurred within Nine’s digital division, following the departure of CEO Mark Britt from the business in 2014 and a shift to co-locate its sales arm within the digital venture Mi9 as it sought to better integrate its offering.

Smart move. Too much duplication at NINE. There is a ton of fat to trim..

Give him 6 months……the overall structure is clunky.
A massive tidy up is required across both TV & Digital assets at NEC.
It’s a fucking mess – band aids holding it all together.

I just checked Mat’s LinkedIn. His experience is entirely in broadcast operations. I can’t see a single digital role on his CV. And yet he will be responsible for the teams that build websites, maintain availability and manage a range of complex technologies that require specialist knowledge. I am Sure he is a very talented guy, but imagine if Nine appointed a purely digital technology head with no broadcast experience. It just wouldn’t happen.
