Mick Molloy and others star in MCG vaccination campaign

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has joined numerous brands encouraging vaccination against COVID-19 in a new campaign, #BePartOfTheTeam.

Targeted at Victorians, the campaign features talent such as Mick Molloy, Rebecca Maddern, Daisy Pearce, Shelley Ware, Darcy Vescio and the Collingwood cheer squad.

The spot features the talent in and around the MCG, stating that in order for live sporting events to come back, people need to “be on the same team” and get vaccinated.

Other talent in the spot include Billy Brownless, Ray Chamberlain, Shaun Burgoyne, Bec and Neale Daniher, Kevin Bartlett, Matthew Richardson and Anthony Hudson.

Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox said: “We’re delighted to have teamed up with some our state’s most recognisable and respected voices to lend our support and deliver the crucial message to encourage Victorians to get vaccinated.

“The MCG has been home to some of Australia’s greatest and most cherished sporting moments for more than 165 years, and has welcomed patrons from all walks of life. It sits close to the city centre as a landmark of unity, dreams and celebration and when full, the MCG is the beating heart of Victoria.

“For the last 18 months, too often the Ground has been left empty. It is symbolic of the struggle all Victorians and particularly those in Melbourne have felt.

“But there is one way to get back to doing what everyone loves – and that is to get vaccinated.”

The campaign was conceived by the Melbourne Cricket Club, which manages the MCG. The campaign will be on MCG and MCC owned channels, as well as the social media channels of the involved talent.

There will also be 15-second and 30-second cuts of the campaign, which Mumbrella understands are in production this week.

The spot is similar to other talent-led vaccination campaigns, most notably from Nine and ABC.
