Mike Cooper to lead Omnicom Media Group for APAC and EMEA

The global chief executive of PHD, Mike Cooper, has been promoted to CEO of its parent company Omnicom Media Group for both its APAC and EMEA operations.

Australia falls under Omnicom Media Group’s APAC region, however local CEO Peter Horgan will continue to report to Tony Harradine, CEO for Asia Pacific.

Cooper will run APAC and EMEA from London

Harradine took over the APAC role in April last year, when CEO Cheuk Chiang stepped down.

Harradine, based in Singapore, will now report to Cooper, who will run things from London.

Cooper’s elevation coincides with Omnicom Media Group’s EMEA boss, Colin Gottlieb, stepping down after nearly 30 years.

Cooper’s successor at PHD has yet to be announced, while Gottlieb won’t be directly replaced.

The restructure is said to ensure greater consistency and speed across the Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and African regions for the business.

In America, Omnicom Media Group is now run by Hearts & Science founder Scott Hagedorn.

Daryl Simm – to whom Cooper will report – said: “Mike’s proven talent for creating and expanding best practices across vastly different local markets has been critical to OMG’s global growth strategy.

“His record, and the respect he has earned for clients and agency teams at every level, speak to his energy, commitment snd professionalism – qualities that he will bring to his new role, working with Hearts & Science, OMD and PHD leadership to assure the best outcomes for our clients across APAC and EMEA.”

Cooper said he had a clear focus moving into the role.

“APAC and EMEA encompass an exciting mix of established and emerging markets, where OMG enjoys significant market share through three strong media networks,” he said.

“Working with our extraordinary talent across these geographies, I will be focused on growing that share by delivering the technology, products and service that translate to business results for our clients.”
