Mind Fire still looking for a distributor

Mind FireThe independent thriller Mind Fire is currently in post-production, but it has not yet found a distribution partner.

According to producer Dylan Schenvekeld, a number of Australian distributors have seen a rough cut and while most provided positive feedback, nothing has been officially signed yet.

The film was shot late last year on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. It was independently financed, with a budget of $500,000.

Like most independent films, Mind Fire is having difficulties finding a distributor willing to make a commitment. One major company said they could not work with the film because they only distribute films with a minimum budget of $3m.

“One of our main challenges right now is hearing back from distribution companies or getting in touch with the right person,” said Schenvekeld. “Our budget is small but not micro, and was raised purely from a group of private investors.”

The company behind Mind Fire, Myrtletown Films, is currently working at The Post Lounge in Brisbane, completing VFX, audio and colour grading.

Mind Fire is the story of a group of medical research scientists who travel to the bush with a renowned professor to study a rare breed of ants. Death and deceit follow and they soon realise that the expedition has a more sinister purpose.

The ants are one of the main VFX challenges, one that they’re currently facing.

“It is vital to the story that the ants  look completely realistic. The other challenge in regards to VFX is fire,” explained Schenvekeld. “Due to logistical reasons we were unable to create an actual fire in the National Park we were filming in. Therefore, the digital effect technicians are now compositing fire for the scene where the medical researchers’ tents are burnt down.”

Schevenkeld said they expect to complete the film in May.
