Box office: Moana 2 makes it three weeks on top heading into school holidays

Moana 2 has spent the entire summer on top of the Australian box office, after coming in at number one for the third weekend in a row.

Moana 2 took another $4.42 million over the past weekend, bringing its total box office in Australia to an impressive $28.93 million.  Meanwhile, Wicked brought in $2.89 million in its fourth week to bring its total past $31 million. HOYTS predicts both films will surpass $50 million by the end of their runs.

In third spot was new Marvel release, Kraven The Hunter, which took an underwhelming $1.07 million, while Gladiator II took another $856,000 in its fifth week, bringing its cume to $21.57 million.

Indian movie, Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 added $626,000 to its box office, which has reached $3.78 million after two weeks. Also copping a slow release week is the animated Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim, which took just $395,000.

Elsewhere this week, Daft Punk & Leiji Mastsumoto: Interstellar 5555 made $291,000 in its opening weekend; psychological horror Heretic added $277,000 to its takings, which hit $2.32 million; Christmas movie Red One brought in $263,000 (despite already being on streaming); and King & Country’s: A Drummer Boy Christmas took $161,000 in it its opening weekend.

The national box office was $12.21 million this weekend – between Thursday and Sunday.
