Mojo’s creative chief: I don’t want silos or fiefdoms

The creative department of Publicis Mojo Sydney is undergoing a structural and cultural revamp following the departure of highly-prized ECD Micah Walker.

Co-chairman and chief creative officer of the Mojo group in Australia and New Zealand Craig Davis took full creative control of the Sydney office following Walker’s exit in July.

He told Mumbrella that he has put into place a “flatter” structure within the creative department based on the principle of “meritocracy”.

“I’ll be more more hands on at the agency,” he said. “But I want a flatter, meritocratic system. I don’t silos or fiefdoms. I’m not just looking to change the structure of our creative department, I want to change the culture.”

Walker is said to have played a very close hand in producing as well as driving the work at Mojo Sydney. The agency’s best work has included ‘Ride’ Coke’s energy drink Burn, which won a lion at Cannes, and the Knight Rider-themed spot for Hahn Super Dry, which won Mumbrella’s ad of the month last month.

Davis, the former worldwide creative director of JWT, returned to Australia in June 2009 to join Mojo. His brief was to improve the agency’s creative reputation.

According to Mumbrella’s creative agency review survey, Publicis Mojo Sydney ranks outside of the top 15 most highly-regarded agencies in Australia.
