One of Australia’s most influential MPs has taken up the cause of helping journalists protect their sources.
Nick Xenephon, the independent senator who demonstrated his power by forcing the government to dramatically increase its spending on the Murray Darling, tells today’s Australian:
“This is bedrock stuff in a democracy and we need to make every effort to get this right.”
According to the paper’s legal affairs section, Xenephon will look to strengthen the current proposals for whistleblower protection.
