Multicultural NSW issues playbook for effective comms with multicultural communities

Multicultural NSW has issued a step-by-step guide to delivering effective communications to multicultural communities.

The Multicultural Playbook for Communications Professionals was “crafted for campaign planning” and provides tips, and practical examples of best practice in multicultural communications.

Joseph La Posta, CEO of Multicultural NSW calls the playbook “an essential resource for all communications professionals.”

“We live in a multicultural society; you’re not communicating with the people of NSW if you’re not intentionally including multicultural audiences,” said La Posta.

“My father and grandparents arrived from Italy in 1959, and through broken English and broken Italian, made a home and a life for our family to thrive.

“I know that having services and programs that were accessible would have made a significant difference to them.

“We hope this playbook gives you the confidence to try new and more meaningful approaches to communicate with multicultural audiences.”

One in four NSW households speak a language other than English at home. Since 2016, NSW has seen an increase of around 300,000 people who were born overseas.

“That’s why communicating with multicultural communities is no longer optional,” La Posta says.

The playbook is a living document, and Multicultural NSW welcomes feedback “so that it remains a useful resource, up to date with current communication trends.”
