Top stories:

5:00pm – It’s fair to say the Budget Direct ads always create commentary – especially when they feature aliens Zeek and Zia. So here’s their latest – which sees the use of “smart technology” for the “smarter deal” provider (see what they did there?).

3:28pm – Ok, whetever you’re doing stop for a moment and marvel at what might well be the greatest TV show to grace our screens this year, Seven’s Bogan Hunters. Truly.

3:05pm – If you’re having a bad day, take a minute to listen NZ radio host on Newstalk ZB Rachel Smalley caught calling her fellow country-women “heifers” and “a bunch of lardos” on air. Here’s her tearful apology:

1.58pm – Droga5’s David Nobay is not going to be part of Season 2. Could Todd Sampson be his replacement? Full story here. 

1.30pm – Yesterday we did a video hangout with some of the region’s top pitch doctors who spoke about the race to the bottom on price and how agencies need to stand up for themselves. You can read about it and watch the video here. 

1:18pm – Details of some new business wins can be found in our FYI section today, including PHD picking up the amaysim account and Naked Communications winning The Tontine Group creative account.

1:15pm – Twitter seems to be quite confused over the Crunchy Nut chatline.

12.44pm – Dr Mumbo calls the Crunchy Nut sexy line. Here are the results… 

12:17pm – Here’s an interesting talking piece from Eleven PR boss Rob Lowe – why PR agencies won’t exist in ten years.

11:55am – Some more creative news, with former Whybin\TBWA ECD Garry Hornery returning to the east coast after a stint at Perth’s Brand Agency taking an equity stake in JMK, which is rebranding to Matterhorn.

11:28am – We’ve got vegetarians, pescatarians and even fruitatarians. Now beef and lamb farmers want us all to become “Bettertarians”. New campaign details here.

10:46am –TV ratings are in and it’s business as usual, with My Kitchen Rules and The Block dominating the night’s proceedings. Puberty Blues saw a dip on last week, but strong timeshifting numbers from last week.

9:58am – Lego is building its marketing team (sorry) appointing a new top marketer promoting sales head Troy Taylor to the top job locally.

9:15am – Yesterday Nine Entertainment Co launched its a spinoff company to deal in data, called Tipstone. New CEO Richard McLaren explained what it is, and why it makes Google’s data look “second tier”.

8:39am – What will media execs do now? It appears a fire has severely damaged the kitchen at Sydney’s Rockpool restaurant – or Global HQ as the Australian Financial Review’s rear Window column Aston has dubbed it – and it’s unclear when it will reopen. So where will our nation’s leaders go to collude in privacy now?

8:20am – Joe Hildebrand has copped a lot of flack overnight after he was criticised live on air by the mother of murdered child Luke Batty yesterday (see below). He’s on Wake Up now explaining what he meant.

8:04am – Morning folks, its somehow Thursday, and the end of the week draws near. So, first up we have to share this classic blooper from TV Tonight, where one reader spotted the scoreboard for this week’s The Block challenges rolling down a Melbourne highway – revealing the totals for the challenges. D’oh.
