Mumbrellacast: Is there room for another streamer? Plus Cummins & Partners’ Michael McConville

On this week's Mumbrellacast, Andrew Banks joins host Calum Jaspan to discuss a potential new streamer in a much-touted match-up between Seven and NBC Universal. Meanwhile, ratings were down for the NRL Grand Final, and ad agencies turn their hands to art in this year's Rigg Design Prize. Also, an interview with Cummins & Partners new CEO Michael McConville, as he looks to put his stamp on the agency.

This week has seen a possible partnership between Seven and NBC Universal for its entire content slate, which includes some of the biggest shows currently on its competitor’s streaming services. Could we see Seven land the deal, and maybe even help launch a new streaming service, Peacock into the market here?

The team also discusses the second week of lower grand final ratings, as another wipe-out match-up in the NRL final fails to deliver on last year’s figures for Nine. How does this place the value for the current deals for the crown jewel winter codes for Nine and Seven moving forward?

Plus, a quick look ahead to the Rigg Design Prize exhibition at the NGV, which opens on Friday featuring work from some of the biggest Australian advertising agencies, and a preview of Paramount’s Upfront event which will take place this afternoon at the ICC in Sydney.

Finally, a chat with Cummins & Partners CEO Michael McConville, who returned recently to Australia to take up the top job at the full-service indie. He talks about leadership structures, planning for the long term, being bold with his ambitions, rebuilding the agency, and who from the stacked adam&eveDDB client list he would’ve liked to have brought over with him.
