Mumbrellacast: The Amazing Race’s Beau Ryan, big changes at Macquarie Media, Foxtel’s loyalty program, and what is a ‘Philausophy?’

On this week’s Mumbrellacast, editor Vivienne Kelly sits down with host of Ten’s The Amazing Race, Beau Ryan, to discuss if it’s possible for the show to generate controversy, clout and column inches without falling back on casual racism. They chat about the diversity of the cast, whether or not viewers will be offended and Ryan’s developing media career. Ryan also reveals how his single with Justice Crew, ‘Where you from?’, is a surprise hit with children.

As Macquarie Media prepares for its takeover by Nine towards the end of the year, it has hit pause on its Macquarie Sports Radio as it undertakes a content review. CEO Adam Lang is departing the broadcaster, with his role becoming redundant. The team speculates what all of this change, including staff shake ups, will mean for the new-look Macquarie.

Also this week, Foxtel launched its loyalty program, which requires 15 years of subscriptions to qualify customers for improved customer service. Other rewards on offer will include entertainment experiences and free upgrades to iQ4. The team discusses why this has come too late in the game, and reporter Brittney Rigby explains why she still can’t watch HBO’s Succession.

And in a wrap of campaign launches this week, the team tries to define ‘Philausophy’ – Tourism Australia’s new brand platform. The Heart Foundation’s ‘Serial Killer’ follow up, ‘I walked away from a killer’, rolled out with less of a bang than its predecessor. And Virgin’s Velocity takes a shot at some hot-button political and current affairs issues in its campaign for frequent flyer points.
