My Space launches new blog

My Space Australia has launched a new blog  – My Space Today-  and appointed three new entertainment writers to work on it.

The announcement:

MySpace Australia today announced the official launch of its new blog – MySpace Today – with the appointment of three expert entertainment writers: Dan Stapleton (Editor, MySpace Music), Jo Cohen (Editor, MySpace Movies) and Cam Shea (Editor, MySpace Games). MySpace Today, which went live last week with an exclusive, one-off interview with Prime Minister Julia Gillard, is a place for Australian MySpace users to discover the latest local and international news in music, movies and gaming. It features daily blog posts as well as album premieres, movie and game reviews, and general pop culture commentary.

“By teaming up with Dan, Jo and Cam on MySpace Today, we’re providing yet another way for MySpace users to engage with the great existing content across all verticals on the site, as well as a place to easily discover and share new content. Each of these very talented individuals brings a wealth of experience in their respective field, which will serve to amplify MySpace as an online destination for great content and discovery,” says Nick Love, Managing Director, MySpace Australia.

MEET THE BLOGGERS:

Name: Dan Stapleton

Title: Editor, MySpace Music

Why He Knows His Stuff: Dan is the former Editor of 3D World and the former Music & Nightlife Editor of Time Out Sydney. He has written for Rolling Stone, The Sydney Morning Herald and jmag. Dan is a respected music journo who has interviewed everyone from KISS to Rihanna.

In His Words:

“Music has been a cornerstone of the MySpace experience since day one – my aim with this blog will be to keep our users in the loop about all the great music that’s getting added to MySpace every day. MySpace is already known for premiering albums and videos by some of the world’s biggest artists (including a very healthy number of Aussie acts!), and fresh talent keeps bubbling up too … MySpace Today gives me the opportunity to write about all of this and more – in real time.”

Name: Jo Cohen

Title: Editor, MySpace Movies

Why She Knows Her Stuff: Jo is the former Australian Editor of film website Rotten Tomatoes.com, and was previously a film columnist for SMH.com.au with Film Fondue. She currently reviews movies for QANTAS in-flight radio program, Up and Away, as well as appearing as a regular guest film critic on Showtime’s The Movie Club.

In Her Words:

“I jumped at the opportunity to work with MySpace because it has always been a place for celebrating and sharing passions whether those passions are music, art, or just other people. Movies are my passion and to be able to share that with people like me is pretty much an obsessive’s dream. I’ll be bringing news, reviews and probably the odd bit of obscure film trivia that is really only good for picking up people who wear turtlenecks and carry satchels but interesting nonetheless. Basically, I am just writing about movies – big and small, cult and mainstream. And sometimes a bit of telly.”

Name: Cam Shea

Title: Editor, MySpace Games

Why He Knows His Stuff: Cam has been a games writer for over twelve years. Six of those years were spent on Hyper magazine, but he’s also had work published in Official PlayStation Australia, PC Powerplay and Rolling Stone. Cam is currently the Games Editor for IGN Australia and also writes weekly syndicated gaming content for several News Ltd papers.

In His Words:

“Did you know the Internet is a series of tubes? I’ll be harnessing the power of those tubes to pipe steaming hot commentary from the world of videogames to the bountiful digital bosom of MySpace. It’ll be – to borrow a term the kids are all using – ‘tubular’. Gaming, you see, is about more than just shooting evil robots in the face and power-sliding around corners in high performance sports cars at 200 kph. Not much more, granted, but more nonetheless, and I’ll be covering the most interesting bits. From the hottest titles and breaking news to discussions of gaming culture, you can expect an honest opinion and a place for the MySpace audience to talk videogames.”
