Private Media has a new chief operating officer after Amber Sloan departed the company after nine years yesterday with a former SapientNitro executive digital producer replacing her.

Jason Kibsgaard takes the COO position for the digital publisher which has titles including Crikey, SmartCompany and The Power Index as well as Women’s Agenda after a year with Box + Dice in Melbourne as general manager.

He previously worked for SapientNitro as executive digital producer between 2008 and 2011, and has also held senior roles at digital catalogue business CC Media, Dark Blue Sea and Red Suit Advertising.

Sloan is understood to be taking some time off to travel before starting any new role.

Private Media’s CEO Marina Go told Mumbrella: “We’re going to be really sad to lose her, she has seen us go from a startup to a medium sized enterprise of 67 staff.

“Jason is a great hire for us, he has experience in media and digital, and it’s going to be a great year for us.”

Sloan joined the company as a marketing manager for magazine The Reader in 2004, but became associate publisher of Crikey when the company bought it in 2005, and  became general manager in 2007 before being promoted to COO in 2012.
