New Fairfax boss tells staff ‘There is much to be done’
New Fairfax CEO Brian McCarthy has given his first address to staff as boss, with a business-as-usual message. He told them:
“I shall meet with the senior executives and discuss the businesses and the operations, and then put in place the organisational structure and processes that I believe will work best for the company overall.”
McCarthy’s promotion followed the sudden departure of David Kirk earlier this month. Staff fear that, inspired by his success in making efficiencies at Rural Press, he could introduce a regime of even greater cost-cutting than already experienced at Fairfax.
He told staff there was “much to be done”, adding: “It is very much business as usual, with an immediate emphasis on the best performance we can obtain in these last weeks before Christmas.
