News Corp Australia’s content publishing arm NewsLifeMedia has appointed a new general manager for Kidspot and Parenting.

The announcement:

NewsLifeMedia’s CEO Nicole Sheffield today announced the appointment of Niamh Collins as general manager – Kidspot and parenting at NewsLifeMedia.

In this new role, which she starts on March 10, Ms Collins will manage NewsLifeMedia’s market-leading parenting portfolio which includes the number one parenting site in Australia Kidspot.com.au and the most comprehensive pregnancy site in the country Birth.com.au.

Ms Collins, who joins the company from The Stayz Group (recently sold by Fairfax Media), will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of NewsLifeMedia’s parenting business and accountable for the commercial outcomes, innovation and product delivery, to drive continued audience growth, category leadership and multi-platform solutions.

The leading player in parenting for eight years Kidspot has a highly engaged, loyal and targeted audience. With an enviable relationship with Australian mums it has paved the way for building digital relationships with women.

Ms Sheffield said: “I am delighted that we have someone of Niamh Collins’ business and digital aptitude to drive our next phase of growth and investment in a bigger, stronger parenting portfolio. She brings a wealth of digital experience and understanding to the business across different business divisions including retail, travel, media, commercial and mobile.

“Kidspot is a truly remarkable brand and is positively thriving. It is Australia’s leading parenting vertical with a unique audience of over 900,000* women who visit and talk to us and each other on our parenting platforms. It is a powerful combination of great parenting advice, inspiring lifestyle strategies and useful tools, along with a very active and far-reaching social community. Niamh is an invaluable addition to the business and highlights News’ commitment to the expansion of Kidspot and parenting.”

Ms Collins is a highly regarded and respected digital executive with over 15 years’ experience. At The Stayz Group she was product director overseeing the owner vertical with responsibility for teams running customer service, trade marketing, display advertising, business development and product development. Prior to this she held key executive positions at NineMSN including head of strategic programs, managing the execution of strategic initiatives across the mobile business; head of entertainment and video; and was a member of the NineMSN executive team as director of wireless.

Ms Collins said: “I am delighted to be leading the Kidspot and parenting business. As a mum to three young boys I have been an avid user of Kidspot for years. It is rare that a role comes up that ticks all the boxes professionally and personally – I look forward to contributing my digital and parenting experience to the growth of Kidspot and NewsLifeMedia’s other parenting brands.”

Ms Sheffield also announced today that the Kidspot marketing and product teams will be relocated to Sydney to be closer to the editorial team. As a result Kidspot CEO Natalie Mactier has chosen to remain in Melbourne and will leave the business.

Ms Sheffield said: “Natalie has been a driving force in Kidspot’s success over the years. I’d like to thank her for the great work she has done for the brand and wish her all the very best.”

Ms Mactier said: “Although it’s sad to be leaving Kidspot after pouring so much time, passion and energy into the brand, I’m thrilled to be able to hand the baton on to Niamh. With her background, experience and genuine affinity for Kidspot, the future looks exceptionally bright for the business. The next phase for Kidspot, under Niamh’s guidance and with further investment and focus from News is going to be an exciting period and I wish the team all the very best.
