New York cabbie and Aussie bloke hail Maccas’ Tastes of America range
A New York cabbie sharing his expertise on burgers with an Aussie passenger is the creative idea behind a McDonald’s ad campaign that introduces its new US-inspired burger range.
The creative agency behind the ad was DDB Sydney, which shares the McDonald’s roster in Australia with Leo Burnett Sydney and DDB New Zealand.
The first in the series of ads sees the cabbie tell his Aussie passenger a thing or two about burgers.
The duo then talk about the New York Classic burger, which brings the cabbie to tears because it reminds him of home.
The Smoky Texan Burger is “perfect for big mouths”, the Aussie bloke tells the cabbie.
The cabbie introduces the Roadhouse Brekkie Roll – before discovering he forgot to fill up his cab with petrol.
Clever. It’d almost make me want to eat McDonald’s. Almost…

I like the ads. Good concept and $4.95 is an OK price. Just do not order fries and soft drinks and it is reasonably healthy if you have it occasionally.

Some of the best Macca ads yet. Must admit Maccas puts out some of the best TVCs in the industry. Simple. Consistent.

Aren’t all McDonalds burgers the tastes of America?

I don’t get it. Spend over a month promoting how “Australian” ‘Maccas’ are, then reel it back to its true red, white and blue American roots.
We don’t need more reminders of how foreign the brand is, and how far its McDonaldization spans.

Yeah – I have to say I’d finally gotten used to the idea that Maccas was part of the Australian landscape – then this reminds me of the reality. Seems like a good way to undo years of work.

I am proud of the final product. When you have solid people all do the line from creatives who let the actors stretch out and improvise to a great director who knows how to get what he needs and an incredible crew you get solid commercials. Wish you could see the out takes. Everybody in Australia was truly amazing to me while I was there. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks to everybody who worked on this and to all the Aussies who made this my fiavorite gig ever!
