Elle appoints The Australian’s Damien Woolnough as deputy editor

The Australian’s fashion editor Damien Woolnough is to be deputy editor of Bauer Media’s soon-to-launch Elle Australia.

Woolnough, moved into the role on The Australian in May 2001 after three years as editor of Vogue’s website.

The move comes only a week after Shop Til You Drop’s editor Justine Cullen moved to Elle as editor and Woolnough will start at the end of April.

“Having worked on some powerful media brands, the opportunity to be a part of the Elle Australia team was irresistible. Elle appeals to women who love fashion, understand luxury and appreciate intelligent and exciting content,” Woolnough said in a press release.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my experience in journalism, luxury media, fashion brands and digital platforms – with an irreverent dash of ‘homme’ – to Elle Australia.”

Woolnough’s replacement at The Australian will be announced in “due course” according to a spokesman.

Cullen said, “Damien’s stellar fashion pedigree and online experience make him the perfect person to join me in leading what will be the most exciting, relevant and forward-facing fashion media brand in the country.”

The first issue of Elle Australia will be on sale in September and the new website launches in August.
