New News Digital marketer to boost profile with media agencies.
News Digital Media has appointed a marketing manager with a brief to take the company’s story out to media agencies.
Jodie Watson, who previously headed marketing for Fairfax Digital’s websites and most recently worked for Profero in China, started this week.
She told Mumbrella: ‘While it’s too early to say what my priorities are, I’ll certainly be getting out and establishing relationships with media agencies.”
She said that one difference between the Australian and Chinese markets is that Australia is less fragmented when it comes to online advertising inventory. She said: “To be honest, Australia is a long way ahead of China. There are hundreds of standards and sizes there. It is a lot more simple over here which means the opportunity is to focus on the things that can make a real difference.”
By contrast, Australia’s Interactive Advertising Bureau recommends just four standard advertising sizes.
Asked about this week’s round of redundancies at rival portal NineMSN, she said: “There’s a brilliant atmosphere here. There’s a feeling that there is a lot more growth to come. I’m really excited to be here.”
Watson will be based in Sydney and report in to NDM’s chief commercial officer Ed Smith.
The team at News Digital was named sales team of the year at the B&T Awards in 2007 and 2008.
Semi related: Seems funny that the IAB Standards & Guidelines Australian Universal Ad Package have missed out the standard 125 x 125 banner ad.
