Sydney digital agency New Republique has parted ways with executive creative director Becky McOwen-Banks after just eight months, making the role redundant as the agency restructures.

McOwen-Banks was appointed as the agency’s first ECD following a global search, however New Republique CEO Nima Yassini said she hasn’t been the “right fit” for the agency.

“It just didn’t work out, it wasn’t a right fit from a cultural and business perspective. At the end of the day, we are a small business and when it doesn’t fit you’ve just got to make the cut,” he said.

“We’re actually making the role redundant, we’re changing the team structure. I’m just not seeing the need for that role within the agency at this point and given the current client mix we have and the way we form teams around our client it’s just not delivering the kind of result we’re looking for.

“So we’ve made the role redundant and we’ve organised the structure of the organisation differently so the clients get the service we like to provide and they like getting and as a result. I don’t think we need that role in the business.

“We’ve parted ways as friends. Becky’s on her way back to the UK,” he added.

The restructure comes as the agency plans to announce hires in the creative department, a strategy hire and three new accounts.

We’ve got some really good news to say,” he hinted.

The creative team will be led by creative director Andrew Jones.
