News.com.au debuts investigative podcast: ‘Sex, Lies and Streaming’

Leading news brand news.com.au has today launched Sex, Lies and Streaming, an investigative podcast into the world of the “adult creator economy”.

The announcement:

Hosted by news.com.au journalist James Weir, Sex, Lies and Streaming promises to pull back the curtain on the multi-billion-dollar adult creator economy, following British OnlyFans sensation Bonnie Blue during one pivotal week in Las Vegas that could make or break her career.

Over six episodes, the podcast combines investigative documentary with reality show elements to expose the brutal economics and human cost behind the headlines. Along the way, Weir explores the industry’s inner workings, meeting moguls, millionaires, and performers who’ve thrived or failed.

News.com.au editor Kerry Warren said: “Love it or hate it, OnlyFans has exploded into the mainstream, thanks in no small part to the headline-grabbing tactics of Bonnie Blue. Bonnie and other X-rated creators have flooded both social and traditional media with tales of their immense wealth and glamorous lifestyles – but in the world of adult content, nothing is as it seems.

“We wanted to dig deeper into this cultural phenomenon, to expose the truth of a booming industry and the larger-than-life characters it has spawned – without judgement and with no holds barred.”

Weir has built a loyal readership with his observational reporting and offbeat perspective. His popular reality TV column has been running on news.com.au for a decade. He now brings his sharp wit to the narrative-driven investigative podcast.

“I flew 12,000 km to interview the world’s most controversial woman on her private jet to Las Vegas, only to have her vanish right before take-off,” Weir said. “Here was someone who’d built their entire brand on scandal, suddenly trying to hide from it. That contradiction became the key to understanding not just Bonnie, but the entire creator economy. The story kept evolving in real-time.

“This podcast isn’t about judging anyone’s choices – it’s about following the money and motivation in an industry that’s boldly reshaping how we consume intimacy. Everyone has an opinion about Bonnie Blue, but no one seems to know who she actually is. I wanted to get a glimpse past the mask of the tabloid villain character and see the real person underneath. While trying to find her, I found myself thrust into an industry that’s sparking a stampede of people chasing an elusive X-rated digital gold rush.”

The podcast launches with two episodes and will then be released weekly. Episodes are supported with video and editorial coverage on news.com.au.
